An alternative to gift bows
When you’re shipping gifts to loved ones around the globe, the ribbons and bows can lose their shape. This is especially true with the mass-produced bows like the one pictured here – they usually squish in transit.
One alternative that works is those mass-produced bows that ship flat, then fan out when the recipient pulls a string. But you can make something very similar yourself: Paper Source has a tutorial on making a Fanned Gift Topper. All you need is decorative paper, scissors and a glue-stick or double-sided tape. For the decorative paper, you can obviously use recycled paper – old gift wrap, magazine pages, greeting cards, etc.
The site recommends finishing them off with a ribbon, but you could also play around with glitter, metallic markers, or puff paints. Cheap nail polish can also be used to decorate crafts like this one.
