Clean and paint rusty pipes outside your house

by Jen (May 16, 2008)

Rust is not only unsightly. It can also damage pipes and cost you money for repairs - and wasted water, if that’s what they carry.

DIYLife has a great guide for cleaning and painting rusty pipes. You can buy products that make every step a cinch, or save money by putting in some elbow grease to do some of it yourself. They offer good, solid recommendations for where you can save money on the tools and paints you’ll need for this job, and where you can’t afford to go cheap. All in all, the whole project is very affordable and shouldn’t take all that much time from your schedule.

If you actually need to remove a rusty pipe and replace it with a new one, follow these steps and be very careful with that propane lighter.
