Cleaning electrical hair tools
by Jen (July 18, 2007)
Tipnut had a good reminder about washing brushes, combs and other things we put through our hair, to remove hair and gunk buildup.
Which got me thinking: if your hair dryers or curling irons tend to catch and trap hairs, do clean these out. They can start fires inside the equipment, particularly with blowdryers. Many newer tools have safeguards against this, but nothing is perfect. If ever a dryer does catch on fire, just turn it off and put it down on a surface like glass or concrete that won’t ignite. To be really safe, you should probably just throw it away. That said, I’ve known people who took the dryers apart, pulled out the burnt hair and got them working again. Do that at your own risk - new hair dryers are around $16.
