De-clutter tip – garage shelves
Do you have a garage full of junk that you can’t even find anything in? Would it cost $100 to buy enough plastic storage boxes to whip it into shape? And a week or two of labor?
Here’s a thought. Every time you get a box – a sturdy shoe box, a box from a mail order, anything that’s the right size – take that box out and go fill it with stuff that belongs together. Pick anything – the items that are bugging you the most, or the first thing you see. Just do the one box for now, and you’ve set a goal that isn’t staggering, and you’ll feel uplifted when you get it done. If there’s room on the shelf, put the box there. If not, just set it on the junk pile for now.
Labeling it isn’t a bad idea, either. Mark right on the cardboard with a Sharpie, or even a regular pen.
One box at a time, you’ll clean up your garage and get it organized without spending a dime. I find breaking horrific tasks down into smaller steps keeps me motivated, gives me several small bursts of that “sense of accomplishment” and gives me a better chance of actually finishing.
