French toast with a snickerdoodle twist
French toast is a wonderful breakfast or snack food. It’s not exactly low-cal, but it’s filling because it uses egg, so you can’t eat as much of it as you can some cakes and candies and donuts and other junk foods. It’s also a great way to make something delicious from bread that’s getting stale.
BakingBites has a delicious recipe for a dish they’ve entitled Snickerdoodle French Toast:
I tried to keep these two things in mind when I set out to snickerdoodle-ify some french toast. French toast seemed like agood candidate for this treatment because, while tasty on its own, it tends to be plain until you add syrup or some other topping to it when serving. For years, I used a sprinkle of sugar in place of syrup when I ate my french toast because I enjoyed the crunch. That sugar was always added after the toast was finished cooking, but it wasn’t a big leap to add the sugar and cinnamon mixture before-hand.
The recipe tastes a little like a Snickerdoodle cookie, and is a form of French toast for which you won’t need syrup, whipped cream or any other toppings.
