Give Thunderbird an Outlook-style calendar

by Jen (December 4, 2007)

I prefer Thunderbird to Outlook for my email client, but sometimes I miss Outlook’s calendar function. Fortunately, Mozilla has a plugin that installs just this feature into Thunderbird: Lightning.

If you’re new to installing plugins in Thunderbird, take note of the install directions. Do not just hit the install button - it doesn’t work. I don’t know why Mozilla doesn’t change that button to save something else, but here’s what to do:

  1. Right-click the link below and choose “Save Link As…” to download and save the file to your hard disk.
  2. In Mozilla Thunderbird, open Add-ons from the Tools menu.
  3. Click the Install button, and locate/select the file you downloaded and click “OK”.
