Google video on slower internet connections

1089124_tvHere’s a little trick I learned with Google videos. If you don’t have a fast enough connection for the video to play smoothly, you can do one of two things. You can hit the pause button and wait for the whole thing to download, then watch it in the browser, or you can download it to view in the Google Video viewer application. When you download it, it will start running in Google Video (if you don’t have the Google viewer installed on your computer, I think it prompts you to download and install it first) and again, you just hit the pause button and wait for it to download.

In either case, you don’t have to wait for the whole thing to download before you start viewing, you just need to let it get far enough ahead of you that you don’t “catch up” before it finishes.

It’s pretty much impossible to do anything else online while the video is downloading, so I usually download vids while I’m working on stuff offline, or while I’m away from the computer altogether.
