How to clean your laptop computer
Not all laptops are exactly alike, so always check your manuals for any cleaning recommendations. Mine don’t have any, except for the screen.
About.com recommends several remedies involving compressed air, cotton swabs, “cleaning solution” and a soft cleaning cloth such as a cotton t-shirt. It also gives sound techniques for using these things to clean the ports, the fans, the keyboard and more. But it doesn’t really clarify what “cleaning solution” you should use for all this. WikiHow suggests a homemade cleaning potion for monitors, which they claim is chemically similar to Kensington’s cleaning solution. It’s a really complicated recipe: 1 part alcohol to 1 part distilled water.
And of course you can always just buy something at the store that says it’s safe for computers and/or screens.
LifeHacker recommends using Post-Its to get gunk out from between keyboard keys, especially if you’re on the go. Compressed air will also do the trick.
What about those glossy screens from Dell? Somebody at Yahoo answers says just wiping with a cloth will do it, no cleaner necessary.
