How to organize a jewelry rack
by Jen (May 29, 2007)
If you’re jewelry’s scattered around or jumbled in a box like bait worms in a bucket, you’ll really benefit from taking a few minutes to organize. Here are some simple steps:
- Untangle everything (that’s going to take the bulk of your time)
- Group necklaces together, earrings together, etc. (Doing this on top of a made bed is good - plenty of room for sorting piles and no carpet fibers to get clasps stuck on)
- Anything that’s broken beyond repair goes into the “throw away” pile
- Anything that’s broken but reparable can go in a repair pile. But make sure it’s worth the money or time it’ll take to fix it. If it’s out of style or cheap, you might not want to bother
- Dump the earrings that have lost their mates. I know you think you’re still going to find the mate someday. I do, too. But accept that it’s gone to Earring Heaven and it’s time to move on.
- Put all the sentimental stuff that you’d keep even if you never wore it in the Definite Keeps pile.
- Now look through the rest. If there’s stuff you don’t like, don’t feel is fashionable, or haven’t worn in a year, donate it to a charity. Or sell it on eBay if you can be bothered (at least it’s cheap and easy to ship).
If you don’t want to do the charity thing or haven’t a charity shop near you, give stuff away to friends who might like it - or their little kids who might use it for playing.
