Make a magazine holder out of a cereal box

You know those magazine holders that look like this? And they usually start at several dollars, and go up to considerable amounts for anything that looks at all stylish or cute? Here’s another suggestion: make your own out of a cereal box. Take a box cutter or Exacto blade - good, sharp scissors could work in a pinch - and start by cutting off the top flaps. On one narrow side of the box, measure about 4-5 inches from the bottom (about a third of the way up) and draw a straight line across it, using a ruler or straight edge of some sort. Now take your ruler and put it against one of the wide sides, holding it diagonally, and draw a line from the line on the narrow side up to the opposite top corner of the box. Repeat on the other side. Now cut along the lines, and you’ve got your basic box.

Decorate it any way you like: Contact paper makes it a little sturdier, but you could use gorgeous wrapping paper, postcards, stationary… get creative. Match your decor. Of course it makes a great project for kids, too.
