Natural anxiety relief
by Jen (December 19, 2007)
Most people deal with anxiety at some point. There are plenty of drugs available for it, but if you prefer drug-free solutions, there are several available.
- Meditation. You don’t need to go to Tibet to find out how to do this. Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting somewhere for hours with your eyes closed. You can just create a “mantra” - a phrase you repeat over and over in times of stress - and mutter it out loud or in your head, even as you’re driving or running around or waiting for something. Or my personal favorite: close your eyes and take three long, slow, deep breaths, and imagine every part of your body relaxing as you do it.
- Yoga. Take a class, or just rent a DVD yoga workout. It’s not as physically easy as you think, so not only will you clear your head, your body will develop that rewarding tired feeling you get after a hard day’s play.
- Green tea. Green tea is filled with L-theanine, an amino acid that calms the mind and promotes a feeling of well-being.
- UPDATE: Flower Remedies. Dr. Bach’s is the most famous brand, but there are others. Some people really feel a difference with these (I do) but others report no difference at all. Something to consider.
Consider changing the ways you look at things in your life that stress you out. Even when you feel powerless to tackle the real source of stress, there are often small changes you could make that would give you more peace.
