Proquo: FREE new weapon against junk mail
by Jen (April 3, 2008)
This is so awesome: Proquo is a free service that automatically takes you off lots of mailing lists with just the click of a button. Other mailing lists require you to go to their website and fill out a form, or to print a form and mail it to them (which I resent). It guides you through all of those as well.
I had no idea how many services have my name and address. Also, services like US search will tell folks everywhere you’ve ever lived and what city you currently live in. They have to pay to get more info, but even the free info could be bad news if you have a crazy ex or a stalker. Proquo will help you get yourself removed from these databases.
You sign up with an email address, then log in. From the dashboard you just click each service you want to be removed from, and Proquo either removes you immediately or guides you through the steps. It’s just so simple. It takes about 5 minutes to click all the ones that take you off instantly. The ones where you need to visit the site and fill out a form take another 5-15 minutes. In less than an hour, you could easily do all this and print and mail the forms required to get you off the rest of the lists.
