Painting glass

720934_glass_paintedAcrylic enamel paint will stick to glass. This one simple fact opens up a whole world of crafting and decor ideas.

If you’re fairly confident of your skills, take a flat piece of glass, put a simple picture behind it, and paint the picture onto the glass. This makes beautiful suncatchers and piece of faux stained glass.

If you failed “coloring in the lines” in kindergarten like I did, have no fear. Cut sponges into shapes, dip them in paint and slap ‘em on your glass object. This still requires a little artistry: you might want to use measuring tools to mark where each of your shapes are going to go, to keep them even. Remember, this can be pretty simple – a few flowers or hearts nakes a plain glass bowl very special. Which means it can also be a very quick project, done while you’re in the middle of moving and you want to make a nice little gift for a birthday that’s having very bad timing this year.

If you’re hopeless even at that, forget patterns. Go for a post-modern masterpiece, and just paint crazy zigzags and whatever.
