Put expiration date labels on your foods
by Jen
Why would you want to go to the trouble of putting your food’s expiration date on a label when it’s already stamped on the package? Because you’ve seen how clear and easy to read those stamps often are. And what happens when the expiration date stamp is on a part of the packaging that gets torn.
If you keep a sheet of sticky labels and markers in the kitchen, it doesn’t take much time to write the expiration dates on a label and then slap it on the packaging. You may not want to bother doing this on things you’re bound to finish before they expire – like potato or veggie chips. But for things that go in a cabinet for a while before you use them, it can be very helpful. Also, it makes it easy to pick the can/jar/package that’s closest to expiring and use it first. The time you spend up front can be time saved in the middle of meal preparation.
