Stop using plastic to store food?

1001621_jerry_3d_1Plastic dishes leech phthalate metabolites into your food. Whether this is bad for humans has not been proven, but high doses seem to cause some negative effects in rats:

Studies on rodents involving large amounts of phthalates have shown damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs and developing testes…

An ongoing study (Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry 2007) has shown correlations between three phthalate metabolites correlate and cellular resistance to insulin, a precursor to Type II Diabetes, which may be partly to blame for the rise in diabetes worldwide.

And the rise in polycystic ovarian syndrome with insulin resistant factors?

I’ve been trying to replace my plasticware with glass for environmental purposes. Even the chance that it’s also bad for our health gives me that much more incentive. Plus, you can’t really complain about the cost of gas if you’re supporting the petroleum industry with plastic purchases. ;)
