Teaching kids to clean their rooms
The time to teach kids to keep a room clean is now, while they’re young. Learning habits only gets harder as we get older.
Badbadivy’s suggestions include:
- Capping how many toys they have by how many they can clean up before they get overwhelmed and just start playing instead of cleaning
- Providing them low shelves they can reach, so they learn how to organize items on shelves
- They may not get it, but make them make their beds. If you ever go into a messy bedroom with an unmade bed, then make the bed without straightening up anything else, you’ll notice the room already looks much nicer just from the bed being made.
- Laundry baskets are their friends. Also, it doesn’t hurt to have them help you put clean clothes away in their closets and drawers so they learn good habits that won’t make their clothes look crappy before they’ve even been worn.
