The right way to store fruits and vegetables
Different vegetables need to be stored different ways if you want to keep them fresh the longest time possible. AtomicGourmet has a chart you can print off and stick to your fridge or a kitchen cabinet. It color codes different fruits and veggies to different storage methods so you can see at a glance how a particular food is best kept.
Following these tips will save you money, make your lifestyle more sustainable, and help you eat more healthily (there’s nothing so discouraging as intending to eat a fruit or veggie only to find it’s gone bad).
Worth noting: the chart says to store bananas on the countertop, which is the traditional wisdom, but some people claim you should let them ripen on the countertop, then put them in the fridge where the skin may turn brown faster, but the inside will stay good longer.
And of course you also want to do your best to buy only what you can use.
