Why you need strength-training as well as cardio
by Jen
Strength-training (weight-lifting) offers fantastic benefits (always check with your doctor if you have any concerns about weight-lifting being right for you):
- Protects you from osteoporosis
- Minimizes effect of injuries to muscle tissue (and everything surrounded by muscle tissue)
- Increases the number of calories you burn
Some research has suggested that for some people, strength-training may be even more valuable than cardio for their overall fitness. Remember: what makes you look slimmer is not necessarily what makes you more healthy. Just because cardio can burn off fat and make you “look healthy” does not make it the only beneficial exercise you can do.
