Work Rave RSI prevention software
by Jen
I’ve been using WorkRave for a little while now to help me prevent repetitive motion strains. It tells you when to take micro-breaks, actual “get up and walk around a few minutes” breaks, etc. It also gives you exercises to do to help. Very awesome software for Windows and Linux, totally free.
But I’ve found another use for it entirely: giving your brain a rest and coming back refreshed.
Normally, I could sit at the computer until I grow into the chair, never averting my eyes from the screen, constantly working. I find I’m much more productive when I take these little breaks WorkRave recommends. And less stressed, which is another cause of stiff necks and headaches.
I suggest on the micro breaks you also look away from the monitor and give your eyes a rest. Don’t do anything with your hands, like writing down notes for when the break is over.
Just relax and stare at the wall – it’s only thirty seconds.
