Working from home
For most of us, working from home is a fantasy. But you may be in a position to make your fantasy come true and not even realize it. Productivity501 reports:
- First, you should figure out what technology your company has for you to work from home, and how many tasks it will allow you to accomplish. The more, the better.
- Make sure you’ve impressed your boss as someone who’s reliable and honest, who shows up and stays focused. Otherwise the idea of letting you go off unsupervised might not seem so good. Show that you get a jump on things that need to be done. Communicate about ongoing tasks, letting the boss know where you’re at with them.
- Don’t goof off. Make sure the boss sees you working.
- Look for ways your business would benefit from you working at home, and frame your argument that way instead of listing the benefits to you. You take up cubicle space. It’s environmentally friendly for you not to commute (all those gas fumes). Maybe you could actually work more hours if you did it from home (and if you’re salaried, that would be a freebie to the company). This last argument is more likely to work if you have a really long commute of over an hour – but more and more people do.
